San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute

The San Diego Community College District has been successfully training the law enforcement officers for San Diego City Police Department and San Diego Sheriff’s Department and seven other police agencies for the past 35 years at Miramar College. The spirit of cooperation that exists between the training staff members and the relationship with Miramar College is unparalleled anywhere else in the state.

The city police and fire chief’s joined with the sheriff’s department and Miramar College to create a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) that would oversee the development of the new training facility on the 24.7 acres that were set aside for a Public Safety Training Center and they would name this site the San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute (SDRPSTI).

The SDRPSTI Joint Powers Authority (the JPA) commissioned the Interact Business Group (IBG) of Valley Center, California, to evaluate options and recommendations for the most practical course of action for the JPA with respect to the future use of the property it currently leases at the former Camp Nimitz Training Center.
