The theme for the conference is ...read more New Ankeny Iowa Shooting Range Was Well-PlannedWhen the Ankeny Iowa Police Department decided to build a new police headquarters, they determined that a shooting range would be included in their plans.
According to Lt. Ed Hamilton of the Ankeny Police “Since we never had an indoor range, I was tasked with the responsibility to research a cost-effective range that met all of the OSHA Health and Safety regulations.” Initially Hamilton had attended the Action Target sponsored Modern Firearms Training and Shooting Range Development Seminar at the Council Bluffs, Iowa Shooting Range. According to Hamilton, the benefit of going to a seminar on-site is that you get to see some products in use. And more importantly, “I did not realize how important it was to think 'outside the range,' since our range would have people working in adjacent areas. The course provided me with the basics so that I could do further research. As an example, I was surprised to see so much acoustic material in the range.” In doing research, Hamilton learned about the OSHA requirements for noise exposure limits. Hamilton was concerned about the health and safety of his co-workers. When the range was completed the acoustics firm provided him with an in-depth report on the range to show that their range was compliant.
